This book is wonderful - if you know nothing about SM play. Anyone who is intermediate or advanced will likely know all or most of what this book has to offer. That being said if you don't have at least one book like this around, this book would be a great one. It covers many topics involving SM, and gives you a lot to think about. A wonderful quick reference to have one hand.

I found parts of this book rather boring but I've read a lot on the subject, had I read this book when I first took up the interest I probably would have felt different. On the other hand, I still learned some things from it even being somewhat "experienced" in the preferences.
Advantages: Very informative and in depth safety discussions. Awesome explanation of rope types and ways to tie a person up.
Made some points that I hadn't previously been aware of or thought about.
Disadvantages: If you're a bit seasoned in this life style choice, parts of the book feel a bit tedious.
