Ask Shanna: Safer Sex for All

by funlove on May 28, 2010

Hi Shanna,

Ok, so I know how two men have safe sex, and how a man and a woman have safe sex, but I was wondering how two women can safely have sex with each other. It seems like there aren’t very many options there. Is there anything more than dental dams? What if there’s a latex allergy? I was just curious, and figured you’d have the answer! Thanks for your time and input!

Hi C.W.-

What a great question! For there to be the safest sex possible, gloves (latex or nitrile) should be used for fingering, finger fucking, fisting, etc, and a barrier should be used for cunnilingus and/or analingus. There are a variety of dams (including some non-latex ones), but you can also cut up the long side of a condom, or cut the fingers off a glove and then cut down the side, or even use saran wrap.

Of course, they (for safer sex) should be using sterilizable toys (like silicone or glass dildos) and actually sterilizing them before sharing them with each other/other partners, or they can use condoms *over* the toys, just like a man would with his penis.

Hope that helps!

Shanna

Just want to say thanks for asking and answering the questions I have been thinking of that too. It kinda sucks cause that is just for lack of better words more of a distraction from the moment!! But safe sex is the best sex so do what you got to do thanks again!!
