Dear Shanna,
I heard that having sex in the pool can kill you. Is this true?

Tom,
In 99.99% of case, no. That rumor is from a few medical case where a woman had air forced into her vagina (one time by a hot tub jet I believe), and the pressure was so much that it somehow went through her uterus and forced an air bubble into her blood stream. That’s also why they tell you not to blow IN to a vagina (blowing on the clit/vulva/etc is perfectly fine).
So technically, yes, it CAN be dangerous. So is flying or driving a car, or eating (you COULD choke). However, it’s very unlikely that it could be or will be dangerous, so you should be fine.
If you’re having sex in a pool/hot tub/etc, keep anyone with a vagina away from the vents/jets. Also, a bigger concern is slipping and hitting your (or their!) head, or drowning, so make sure you take proper precautions. As a side note, silicone lube is GREAT for watery areas (bath, shower, pools, lakes, oceans, hot tubs and so on) because it doesn’t just wash away.
Happy swimming and sexing!
-Shanna
